Healthcare Heroes 2025:
HONORING LEADERS ADVANCING
CARE AND COMMUNITY
Franklin University’s commitment to workforce-aligned education and community
impact was on full display during the 2025 Healthcare Hero Awards, presented by the
University’s Global Center for Healthcare Education (GCHE). The annual recognition
honors professionals whose leadership, innovation and service are shaping the future
of healthcare, while reinforcing Franklin’s role as a trusted partner to the health sector.
The awards were presented during the GCHE Scholarship Showcase, a virtual event
themed “Innovations in Healthcare and Nursing” that brought together students,
faculty, alumni and healthcare professionals to explore solutions improving
outcomes across today’s complex healthcare systems. Opening the program,
Franklin recognized three distinguished Healthcare Heroes whose careers reflect
excellence in care delivery, policy, and leadership.
DR. BRUCE VANDERHOFF
Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, director of the Ohio Department of
Health and a graduate of Franklin’s MBA program, was honored
for his leadership in advancing public health across the state.
From addressing environmental health threats and healthcare
access to guiding Ohio through the COVID-19 pandemic,
Dr. Vanderhoff exemplifies systems-level leadership grounded
in real-world impact. His career, including more than a decade
as senior vice president and chief medical officer at OhioHealth,
reflects the kind of workforce-ready leadership Franklin
prepares through applied, industry-informed education.
DR. ANITA SOMANI
Anita Somani, MD, an OB-GYN at OhioHealth for more than
30 years and a member of the Ohio House of Representatives,
was recognized for her unique ability to bridge clinical practice
and public policy. Drawing on decades of frontline experience,
Dr. Somani has championed evidence-based legislation
that strengthens healthcare delivery and public health.
Her longstanding relationship with Franklin, as a past
executive in residence and current member of the GCHE
Advisory Board, underscores the University’s emphasis
on collaboration between education, practice and policy.
DR. SABRINA DEAN
Sabrina Dean, DBA, RN, founder of Sabrina’s Consulting
and an adjunct instructor in Franklin’s doctoral program,
was honored for her contributions to quality improvement,
infection control and holistic health. With 35 years in healthcare
and extensive executive experience across acute and long-term
care settings, Dr. Dean brings practical expertise into
the classroom, mentoring future leaders, and reinforcing
Franklin’s commitment to practice-informed scholarship.
