Franklin University has announced that its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Post-Graduate APRN Certificate programs have been granted accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org). CCNE accreditation is a peer review process that employs nationally recognized standards of quality in nursing education. Franklin has been granted the maximum possible initial accreditation period of five years after preparing a comprehensive self-study and undergoing a site visit by the CCNE accrediting team, which conducted a thorough review of the DNP and Post-Graduate APRN Certificate curriculum and processes.  Franklin’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing and MSN programs are also accredited by CCNE.

CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of academic nursing programs in the United States through its robust accreditation process, serving the public interest by supporting continuous self-assessment by nursing programs, and provides the framework for growth and improvement of collegiate nursing programs, professional education, and entry-to-practice nurse residency programs.

“Franklin University is dedicated to providing the highest possible quality in advanced practice nursing programs and industry partnerships, and this accreditation action by CCNE is a concrete result of that dedication,” said Franklin President Dr. David R. Decker.  “We take pride in  contributing to our country’s nursing talent pipeline with highly qualified advanced practice nurses, enhancing health care quality and improving access to health care for our citizens.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for nurse practitioners with DNP or FNP credentials will grow by 31 percent by 2026, representing more than 64,000 additional jobs. Multiple factors, such as post-pandemic employee burnout, an aging population, and a shortage of trained professionals, have caused a nationwide nursing shortage that requires access to quality, professionally oriented curricula to overcome.

Franklin University’s School of Nursing serves the community and society through high quality online instruction combined with properly supervised clinical placements. Franklin’s School of Nursing continues the University’s long tradition of making career advancement possible for working adults.    Franklin’s nursing programs include the RN-BSN; the MSN with tracks in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Generalist, Nurse Administrator, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; Post-Graduate Certificates in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; and the DNP with tracks in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Leadership, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The University also offers RN to MSN and BSN to DNP pathways. Students complete a majority of the coursework online, allowing them to continue working full-time while pursuing an advanced degree.
