Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, is pleased to announce the launch of its international student ambassador program. A component of the University’s newly expanded Faculty and Student Services support team, the international student ambassador role provides international students with a proven history of academic success the opportunity to work at the University in a paraprofessional leadership role.

“Working with the international student ambassadors has been a gratifying experience,” shared Michael Klingler, chair of the Franklin University Department of English and Humanities. “Seeing the progression these students experienced from the start of their own academic journey in the United States – anxious about their studies, full of curiosity and unsure of Franklin and the city of Columbus, to now filling this valuable leadership role of helping other new international students has provided an essential learning experience for all involved.”

As a student-focused university, Franklin recognizes that international students face unique experiences outside and inside the classroom when acclimating to a new culture. By leveraging their own experiences of navigating housing and transportation, orientation sessions, and in-class activities and assignments, the international student ambassadors can serve as positive role models for new international students.

“Working in Faculty & Students Services has given me the opportunity to serve students, faculty members, and develop valuable skills. The opportunity to assist our adjunct instructors with class preparation and impromptu problem solving, has been great,” shared Oluwafemi Fasuyi, Faculty & Student Services and Student Ambassador. “As a student ambassador, I enjoy meeting and helping new international students learn about the many opportunities available at Franklin University that are geared towards helping them succeed in their academics career.”

By adding a student peer-to-peer resource, the University continues its 360-degree learning model that surrounds students with like-minded people who understand their journey and aspirations. This built-in network of peers is an invaluable resource for students navigating a new culture while working toward finishing a degree.
