PSYC110 - General Psychology

Description:
This course is a survey of the various fields of study comprising modern scientific psychology. We will examine the theories, research findings, and applications in each of the major areas of psychology, with the goal of providing students with practical information they can apply to their personal and professional lives. The topic areas covered in the course include learning and memory, motivation and emotion, human development, theories of personality, psychopathology, and social behavior.

Outcomes:

  • Describe foundational concepts of introductory academic psychology (e.g., biological, cognitive, developmental, social and personality, and mental and physical health)
  • Describe and evaluate basic research methods and statistical techniques used in psychology to study human behavior
  • Identify the application links between life, theory, concepts, and everyday life
  • Recognize individual differences and similarities (e.g., gender, ethnicity, and race) in psychological contexts
  • Assess and analyze psychological theories, research methods and outcomes, and practical applications available through the media
  • Recognize basic ethical standards/principles of the psychology profession
