Profile

Michelle D. Thomas, Ph.D. is President of the James Franklin Group, LLC. She provides consultation, program design, and facilitation on the following topics: teacher professional development, teacher evaluation, new teacher mentoring, curriculum design, instructional methodology, teacher leadership, and professional learning communities. Dr. Thomas is the founder of a Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA) designed for girls in Grades 5-16+ who have demonstrated academic talent and leadership potential. The YWLA supports the development of a new generation of women leaders; guides participants as they investigate leadership; and conducts research and the resulting research inform programming. Dr. Thomas has served several roles in higher education: Director of the Glazer and Lorton Writing Institute and an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Teaching and Learning for the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.  Assistant Professor and Director of Programs for Advanced Studies in Education at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio.  Adjunct Instructor at Kent State University. Dr. Thomas's professional experiences in K-12 education include Elementary Principal at Our Lady of the Elms in Akron, Ohio; Director of Instruction and Professional Development and Leadership Team Member at Canfield Local Schools in Canfield, Ohio; and Reading and Language Arts Teacher at Heritage Middle School in Westerville, Ohio. Dr. Thomas has the following licensure in the State of Ohio: Permanent Teaching Certificate: Elementary 1-8, Areas of concentration: Reading and Language Arts; Special Area Endorsement: Reading K-12. Administrative Specialist License: Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Principal's License: Grades PreK-9 & PreK-12 Superintendent's License, anticipated May 2020
